I am a Pakistani artist and believe that through my art I can in some way make others more aware of the issues that I come across. Through this piece, I wanted to explore the concept of gender-based discrimination and violence and unfold the extent of this problem, particularly sex-selective abortions. Even though the world around us seems to progress in many different fields, I feel as though that this idea of choosing or considering one particular sex to be better than the other is still one that we have not truly eradicated from the minds of people. Specifically in Pakistan, this idea of the male species being superior truly seems to have plagued the minds of people, be that rich or poor, literate or illiterate. Sex-based violence happens daily all around the world and this concept of female infanticide is not one unknown to the world. As an artist, I do not think that gruesome ideas need to be represented in a gory fashion, and keeping that in mind, I chose to take a poster-like approach for this piece.
